LotR re-read: FotR I.7, revisited

I meant to ask this yesterday and forgot:

What are people's reactions to Tom Bombadil's apparent complete immunity to the Ring? That is, does it change how you feel about the Ring, or the quest to destroy it, or the characters' reactions, or anything else?

Because, again, of my extreme familiarity, I don't know what I think about it; but I can see that it's odd and might affect people's experience of the story, so I'm curious.
