Week in Review

My dad is recovering from surgery. If your personal beliefs include some kind of purposeful consideration, I believe that he and my mom would not object.

As I already said, I was in Rochester for oral arguments earlier in the week. The trip was fine, but it's nearly 500 miles of driving in less than 24 hours, which is tiring even under the best circumstances. On Wednesday I discovered that I had a very short deadline on an important thing; and I've been feeling vaguely icky since about Thursday or Friday. The only useful things I did this weekend were a bit of laundry and another iteration of baked potato soup—a pinch of rosemary and thyme seems to have worked well, though I reserve final judgment until I reheat it. In contrast, Chad committed carpentry today, building a cover for a very drafty exhaust vent.

Anyone see the eclipse last night? We saw the moon coming out of it, through thin clouds, which was neat.

Followups:

  • What can be learned from silly polls: golden-brown toast wins in a landslide, and dead squid are remarkably popular. I'll have to remember pick-a-quote polls next time I have a cat to vacuum (and it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to start updating the quote file again).
  • Thanks for the comments on Santa Claus; I'm too fried to reply individually, as I prefer to do, but they were very helpful and I appreciate people weighing in.
