Week in Review

We Entertained this weekend, having some people from the college over for a cookout Saturday. This was lovely, lots of lively conversation about many things—we even forced our two spare Tigana's onto people who aren't huge genre readers, because of overlapping conversations on fantasy, prose, and genre (and then gave many other spare books to someone who is). We cooked what is fast becoming our trademark outdoors meal, Chad's spiedies [*] and my chocolate chip cookies—not fancy, but hey, you go with what works.

[*] I don't know about "traditional," but we don't eat it between sliced bread; rather, one holds the sliced bread flat in one hand, puts the skewer of meat down on it across one's palm, and then pulls, curling up one's hand to hold the meat. The result is rather like a hot dog roll.

We need to Entertain more often, if only to reduce the amount and intensity of cleaning that needs to be done beforehand. That was pretty much the week: work, clean, work, clean (with an occasional pause to hit "refresh" on the online soap opera/fanfic RPG I follow, nocturne_alley). I did some serious loafing yesterday to recuperate and really enjoyed it; it was mostly-sunny in the morning, so I basked and read Point of Honour by Madeleine Robins, which was fabulous—much more satisfying on all levels than the last lazy-Sunday book, Robin McKinley's Deerskin, which I wanted to argue with. (And I'd planned to start writing book log entries again tonight, but I'm not going to get to it now. Tomorrow, honest! Yell at me if I don't.)
